Even though you don’t ingest cleaning supplies or cosmetics and toiletries, they all enter your body, whether you like it or not. “Paleo” is more than a diet, and includes making healthier lifestyle choices. Remember, if your cells can’t process what is in/on you, you probably shouldn’t be using it. Time to go paleo with more than just food, sleep and exercise!

The skin is the largest organ of the body. It absorbs and processes most items that come into contact with it. Did you know that if you rub garlic on your feet, you can taste it in your mouth within a few minutes? The skin is that absorbent. What do you think it is doing with all of the creams, lotions and deodorants you’re putting on it?

The chemicals in ordinary personal care products can leach into your bloodstream and add up over time. There is no biological free ride. They accumulate in your fatty tissues and are difficult to get rid of. Do a simple google search for “aluminum salts deodorant breast cancer” and you will come up with a vast amount of research articles linking antiperspirant chemicals to breast cancer.

Try to use as few products as possible and when choosing your products, use the same trick we recommend for analyzing food labels – if you can’t pronounce an ingredient, don’t buy it. This goes for weird fake scented sprays and candles as well. Where do you think these scents come from? They were chemically manufactured in a lab. If you are smelling some weird fake scent, you are also going breathing it in.

Tom’s has a fantastic line of body products including deodorants, body wash, toothpaste and shampoo. There are plenty of other “natural” options when you go to your store. These products may also be labeled as “green” products. There are plenty of options, even at large, non-speciality stores. Target carries brands like Method, J.R. Watkins, and Tom’s among others, responding to the demand for products with fewer chemicals. Don’t continue to cover yourself in chemicals you wouldn’t dream of ingesting – go paleo and replace some of these items today!

Go paleo with household products such as soap, cleaners, deodorant, toothpaste, shampoo and body wash with more barebones and natural alternatives.
